Laphroaig 10yo is a full-bodied, smoky gem, with a residual sweetness and a hint of salt amid the seaweedy, peaty characters before a long warming finish. A classic dram.

This opens on big, smoky muscular peat notes. There are spices, and liquorice, as well as a big dose of salt.
Flavours:
Seaweed-led, with a hint of vanilla ice cream and more than a whiff of notes from the First Aid box (TCP, plasters etc). The oak is big, and muscles its way into the fore as you hold this whisky over your tongue. An upsurge of spices develop – cardamom/black pepper/chilli.
Character:
Big and drying, tarry notes build up with an iodine complexity.
Laphroaig 10 Year remains a beloved classic because of its ability to transport its audience to Islay, a remote and harsh place many will never travel to. It encapsulates much what the average peaty whisky drinker desires and expects. It offers simplicity and purity of expression from a place where there are many competing classics, and a few competing trendsetters.
